Universal Avionics Flat Panel Displays Approved for More Flight Functions

Universal Avionics' growing family of Electronic Flight Instruments recently received further TSO approvals from the FAA, making more functions available to OEMs and for retrofit. The flat panel EFI-550, EFI-600 and EFI-640 now have level A software approval enabling both ADI (Attitude Director Indicator) and HSI (Horizontal Situation Indicator) applications. All three EFIs incorporate advanced ruggedized color LCD active matrix technology. In ADI configuration, the EFIs can display standard attitude information along with command bars and flight director/autopilot annunciations. They will in the future also support video input from Universal Avionics' Vision-1 synthetic vision system currently under development. In HSI configuration, they provide variable-range compass rose/map display functions that can include FMS data, navigation sensor inputs, heading bugs, TCAS, and weather radar.
