Qualcomm Demos Air to Ground Link

On Wednesday, December 12th at 10:30 a.m., Qualcomm will conduct a live demonstration of its new bi-directional air-to-ground communications system. Held at booth 8846, the system will interface with an airborne Challenger 604, which will transmit live audio, video and e-mail to the booth.

The heart of the system is its high-speed (128 Kbps) Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) technology, that can significantly enhance aviation safety and security.

Some of the security functions for the new system include supplying a dedicated communications link for air marshals, and in-flight monitoring and threat analysis using remotely controlled cabin and cockpit cameras. In addition to its security features Qualcomm said its CDMA technology enables users to create a virtual office in the sky, with Internet, e-mail and video conferencing applications.
