Stevens Delivers First Avantis
Stevens Aviation earlier this year delivered the first of seven
Piaggio Avanti aircraft under an agreement with Piaggio America
to complete a series of the twin engine, turbo-prop pusher aircraft.
In addition to performing factory updates and modifications, Stevens
provided customized avionics, and interior and exterior paint
to conform to the specifications dictated by the ultimate end
customer.
The first airplane was completed on time and delivered to Piaggio
on June 14 for final delivery to the owner on June 25, 2001.
"The delivery of this first Avanti completion validates our
decision to enter into a completions and service center agreement
with Stevens Aviation" said Steve Hanvey, President of Piaggio
America. "We are extremely pleased with the quality of work."
Larry Baker, Stevens vp of operations, said the Piaggio contract
allows Stevens to showcase its craftsmanship and capability to
complete aircraft of various sizes at its Donaldson Center in
Greenville, S.C. The center has a new 20,000 sq. ft. hangar dedicated
to Piaggio completions.
The Donaldson Center includes a maintenance facility with 80,000
sq. ft. of hangar space, 30,000 sq. ft. of support shop and 15,000
sq. ft. of administrative space. It features a world-class paint
facility that boasts a 15,000 sq. ft. prep/detail bay, two 7,500
sq. ft. paint stripping bays, two 7,500 sq. ft. painting bays
and another 5,000 sq. ft. of support area.
Stevens Aviation, which has been in business more than 50 years,
has facilities in Denver, Nashville, Dayton, Lexington and two
locations in Greenville, S.C., (GYH) and (GSP).
