Meggitt Waves MAGIC Wand Over More Instrument
Panels
Latest victory for Meggitt Avionics is the fitting of its MAGIC
electronic flight instrument systems (EFIS) to the popular Grand
Renaissance 690A Twin Commander aircraft.
The equipment will be available for retrofit under the Renaissance
Twin Commander program that virtually remanufactures and upgrades
the venerable but popular twin.
Meggitt's MAGIC is standard equipment on the PT6-powered New
Piper Malibu Meridian aircraft. It is flying on more than 80 to
date, and Meggitt has supplied over 100 shipsets to the Vero Beach,
Florida manufacturer to meet a bolstered orderbook of 140-plus
new aircraft. New Piper Aircraft ramped up production and delivery
during 2001 to meet increased demand.
Fairchild Dornier recently chose MAGIC for an upgrade program
for its Merlin and Metro regional aircraft. The program is a critical
step in the long-term support of in-service aircraft, since it
addresses reliability and support issues of the older electromechanical
instruments, the company said.
"We have been 18 months to two years ahead of our competition
with MAGIC and we foresee a terrific retrofit potential with
some 175,000 general aviation aircraft flying in the U.S. alone,"
Terry Twigger, CEO of parent company Meggitt plc., told Show
News.
