Parker Hannifin's aircraft wheel and brake unit in Avon, OH has been named and approved supplier of main wheel and brake components on B and C versions of Sikorsky's S-76 helicopter, and promises that it will be able to supply wheels for the A model soon. Parker expects to supply the components for both new and existing helicopters. The forged aluminum wheels are said to be stronger and more corrosion resistant than existing cast magnesium wheels. "Fewer parts, wear pads, rivets and a one-piece torque tube with integral axle mounting flange, combined with longer life aluminum parts reduces maintenance time and cost," Parker says.
