There's No Hiding From FLIR's FLIR

FLIR Systems comes to Heli-Expo 2001 (Booth 987) with several recent orders for its latest Ultra 7000 FLIR, introduced last year at this venue. Recent orders have come from the Massachusetts State Police, Maryland State Police, Houston Police Department and the San Bernardino Police for a new EC 120.

The Ultra 7000 is designed for higher-altitude, long-range search and surveillance for rotary- and fixed-wing aircraft. The system features a 10X continuous zoom IR lens with a focal range of 25mm to 250mm, allowing crews to fly higher and see targets with better detail without losing track of a suspect when switching between magnification levels.

Housed next to the infrared imager is a color CCD camera that also features a 10X continuous zoom lens. The camera complements the system's infrared capabilities with color pictures for daytime surveillance. An autotracking system reduces cockpit workload by helping the operator maintain target acquisition.

The Ultra 7000 FLIR is one of four systems the company has brought to Anaheim this year. The others include Star Safire, UltraMedia LE and UltraMedia III, a low-light broadcast-quality camera in a five-axis gimbal.
