Teal Group Sees Tiltrotor Market Success

Tiltrotors-specifically the the V-22 Osprey and civil BA 609-will capture 20% of the world rotorcraft market between now and 2009, according to the latest forecast from the Teal Group.

All told, the V-22 program will be worth $9.8 billion (in deliveries alone, excluding upgrades and support) to Bell Helicopter and Boeing, representing about 13% of the total dollar value of rotorcraft deliveries in this period.

Teal's Richard Aboulafia expects total production in the next 10 years of 9,206 rotorcraft worth $74.5 billion, of which 4,712 machines, worth $12.3 billion, will be for civil users. The military will take 4,494 machines worth $62.2 billion.

"These numbers represent a great improvement over the previous ten years (1990-1999) when production totaled 8,229 machines worth $51.3 billion," he said.
