On The Wright Trail
With the 100th anniversary of man's first powered flight fast
approaching, Cornelius, North Carolina-based Aviation Specialty
Resources has launched a three-year Centennial of Flight Transporter
program to honor the achievement of Orville and Wilbur Wright's
pioneering flight at Kitty Hawk on December 17, 1903.
A tractor-trailer unit featuring a video wall, display and museum
areas and aviation artifacts including a replica Wright Flyer
and a working model Wright engine, will tour the U.S. visiting
schools, airports, museums and special events.
It will be flown across the Atlantic to take part in the Farnborough
and Paris air shows in 2002 and 2003.
"The goal is to show the nation and the world what these
two men really did on that day, in a way special and unique to
everyone," said ASR president Alan Winninger. Aviation oxygen
supplier AVOX and Charlotte, North Carolina-based Mack Trucks,
which celebrated its centenary last year, are supporting the Centennial
of Flight Transporter.
The official spokesman for the program is 1983 NASCAR Winston
Cup champion and 29,000-hour pilot Bobby Allison. The tour begins
next month.
