Midlife Avionics Upgrade for Challenger 604

Rockwell Collins has received TSO approval for a midlife avionics upgrade for the Canadair Challenger 604's Pro Line 4 suite.

The upgrade includes integrated FMS V-speeds, engine thrust management, and increased EICAS functionality. A three-dimensional flight plan map and expanded flight date recorder parameters to meet new FAA FAR Part 135 requirements are optional.

The integrated V-speeds facility allows automatic look-up and display of take-off, approach and landing and missed approach speeds via the Collins FMS-6000 FMS, eliminating the need to extract data from manuals and the possibility of error. The crew can transfer V-speeds to the primary flight display with a single button push, providing an "eyes-up" reference during takeoff.

The three-dimensional flight plan provides a graphic representation of the programmed flight plan and predicted flight path on multifunction displays. The viewing angle may be rotated to any orientation, providing crews with a clear visual reference of take-off and climb constraints, VNAV descent paths, and approach/missed approach procedures. It includes an FMS cruise speed feature that computes target speed based on flight manual data for maximum range or highest speed.

The upgrade will be introduced on new production Challenger 604s this summer and will be available for retrofit through service bulletins.
