GE Tests CF34-8 for 728JET

GE Aircraft Engines has begun flight tests of the CF34-8 growth engine that will power the Fairchild Dornier 728JET airliner, says the airframer. Tests began two weeks ago with a 6 hour, 41-minute flight on GE's Boeing 747 flying testbed out of Mojave, California. The 728JET will use the CF34-8D version of the engine rated at 12,500 pounds takeoff thrust. First flight of the new Fairchild Dornier aircraft is slated for early 2002 with first deliveries in mid-2003. Fairchild Dornier has orders and options for 276 of the 55- to 110-seat airliners.
