Welcome to Learjet Country

The FBO ramps at Geneva-Cointrin Airport are packed with the wares of just about every business jet manufacturer, including a generous number of ubiquitous Bombardier Learjets. But how many EBACE attendees remember that Switzerland was the birthplace of the very first Lear Jet? The late Bill Lear conceived the archetypal business jet while resident in Switzerland. He based the design for the original Lear Jet's tiptanked wing on that of the Swiss P-16 military ground-attack aircraft, and founded the Swiss American Aircraft Corporation in St. Gallen to develop the SAAC 23, which later became the Lear Jet Model 23.
