Really Quiet Claims It Can Hush the Roar of a Noisy Spey

Certification is expected any day by Really Quiet LLC of its Stage 3 hushkit for Gulfstream II and III aircraft (exhibiting here in Booth 7863).

Both aircraft, powered by the Rolls-Royce Spey, belong to the generation of older jets that face noise restrictions in both Europe and U.S.

Really Quiet's hushkit is novel in that it features a retractable-or rather, extendable-exhaust muffler that need be deployed only on takeoff and approach. This minimizes the penalty that hush kits usually impose on fuel consumption and performance, as it remains stowed during the remainder of flight.
Really Quiet's hush kit also incorporates the thrust reverser.

The company hopes to announce certification by the FAA during EBACE, following the completion of engineering studies and extensive flight testing on an early Gulfstream.
