| F119 Engine Takes F-22 Raptor Through 500 Flawless Hours Asian Aerospace 2000 -- Pratt & Whitney F119-PW-100 engines in the first two Lockheed Martin F-22 fighter prototypes have performed without fault during the initial 500 hours of test flying at Edwards AFB. Full flight release (FFR) was granted to the engine last year, certifying it to power the next-generation aircraft throughout its broad flight envelope, which includes cruising without afterburner at Mach 1.5 and flight at a 60 degree angle-of-attack. Thus far, the F119 has demonstrated half the engine's near-term target of a hot-section life of 1,000 hours and 2,150 cycles. Ultimately, the engine will be cleared for 4,000 hours and 8,600 cycles.
