New Boeing Avionics Laboratory Aids UK's Apache Program

Following its delivery to England late last year, a Mission Avionic Systems Rig (MASR) developed by Boeing at Mesa, Arizona, is assisting GKN Westland to build and support a fleet of 67 WAH-64D Apache combat helicopters for the British Army Air Corps. MASR took three years to produce and duplicates all the systems and avionics on the mast radar-equipped Apache Longbow so comprehensively that Westland can test new software without having to borrow an aircraft for trials. Initial positive response from the user has prompted Boeing to begin design of a new avionics integration lab based on MASR. Other Apache operators can use this to evaluate components and subsystems under operational conditions-even simulated combat.
