Small and Versatile Sentry Watches Over IAI Exhibit

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have come to Asian Aerospace in force this year. Israel Aircraft Industries' Malat division is showing its S-Tec Sentry tactical UAV, which can carry a 75 pound payload-such as the FSI sensor turret, fitted here-for up to eight hours over a range of up to 120 nautical miles. Weighing 250 pounds, the Sentry can be launched from a ramp or runway using its tricycle landing gear. Return to Earth is by skid or wheels, an option in the latter case being a short, radio-controlled landing using a parafoil. The 95 kt, propeller-powered Sentry is said to be operational with an undisclosed army. (©Mike Vines )
