CFM Completes Tests of TECH56 Fan

Singapore -- CFM International has completed full-scale tests of its new-technology TECH56 fan, destined for future versions of the best-selling CFM56 engine. The fan uses wide-chord, swept blades and has been tested on a modified CFM56-7 engine at GE and Snecma facilities. According to CFMI, the fan's improved aerodynamics provide better efficiency over the entire thrust range and produce more thrust and airflow within the same diameter.

CFMI says that the TECH56 program, which it announced two years ago, will probably lead to improved CFM56 derivatives before a new engine is launched. As well as the new fan, CFMI is demonstrating a new six-stage high-pressure compressor, a low-emissions TAPS (twin annular pre-swirl) combustor, a redesigned high-pressure turbine and a low-noise "chevron" core nozzle.
