Elisra Showcases EW Advances

Asian Aerospace 2000 -- Elisra Electronic Systems, Israel's advanced electronic warfare house, has two newly-developed self-defense suites on show at Asian Aerospace. The PAWS (Precision Approach Warning System) and ASPS (Advanced Self-Protection Suite) systems are based on Elisra technology already in service and combat proven with the Israel Defence Force Air Force, and are now available for export.

PAWS is a missile warning system designed to protect aircraft from MANPADS IR-homing missiles. It uses a unique arrangement of four staring-array sensors dotted around the airframe to give 360° coverage against incoming missiles. Staring array sensors allow longer-range detection of incoming missile plumes than other similar systems. PAWS is able to discriminate a missile's IR signature from the background clutter and identify it by its trajectory and intensity behavior.

Elisra offers laser-warning and radar-warning receivers that can be coupled with PAWS to provide seamless threat warning. PAWS can be used to trigger countermeasures dispensers, providing highly effective just-in-time protection. Two versions are now available: PAWS-1 for helicopters and transport aircraft and PAWS-2 for high-speed jets.

ASPS combines a passive warning system with an active jammer, as an integrated self-defense suite. It is already operational on the F-15I aircraft operated by No. 69 Squadron of the IDF/AF. ASPS is said to be effective against all radar threats. It is linked to a chaff/flare decoy dispenser to provide a fully automatic system.
