Fly a Falcon; Pick a FlightSafety Simulator
Following certification of FlightSafety International Falcon
900EX and 2000 simulators at its Dallas/Ft. Worth training center,
FlightSafety International is on track to have simulators for
the full line of Falcon aircraft-10, 20, 50, 900EX and 2000-operating
by first quarter 2001.
The Falcon 2000 simulator at DFW is FlightSafety's third for that
type, and the 900EX is the second. Both will be certificated
to Level D standard, and are equipped with the company's VITAL
ChromaView visual systems.
The DFW center joins the company's Paris/Le Bourget, Houston and
Teterboro facilities in offering training for the full range of
Falcon Jet models. Eventually, the DFW 110,000-square-foot center
will be one of FlightSafety's largest, with a capacity of 16 simulators
for both business and regional aircraft.
One of the other aircraft types available for training there will
be the Galaxy business jet. FlightSafety's Level D Galaxy simulator
is expected to be certificated soon.
In other news here in New Orleans, FSI will be demonstrating FlightViz-a
computer-assisted debriefing system. It generates a comprehensive
record of all flightdeck activities during a simulator session
by capturing flight data and exporting the information through
a software program that replays the training session in 3D graphics.
During debriefing, the computer-generated record is synchronized
with cockpit video of the training session, and supplemented by
views of cockpit instrumentation and the aircraft's flightpath,
which may be displayed on-screen simultaneously.
The set-up allows FlightSafety instructors to digitally bookmark
important events during a simulator-based training session and
return to those events instantly for review in the debriefing
room. The features lets instructors and pilots repeatedly revisit
the exact moment a critical decision was made.
In addition to cockpit and instrument views, the software displays
an exterior view of the aircraft as it responds to pilot input.
Aircraft attitude is reproduced in detail, and pilots can observe
the aircraft pitch, yaw and roll in response to flight control
adjustments, flap deployment and landing gear movements.
Now in demonstration and evaluation phase, the computerized debriefing
system is in operation at FlightSafety's Citation Learning Center
in Wichita.
Other new FSI developments are as follows:
- The company will offer ground
handling and service training courses for operators of the Gulfstream
IV and V at the Savannah Learning Center. The five-day, model-specific
courses offer entry level maintenance and FBO personnel instruction
on proper and servicing and safe ground handling of Gulfstream
aircraft through classroom and hands-on experience on actual equipment.
- As part of a recent training
agreement with Fairchild Dornier, FSI will build and operate a
Level D simulator for the Envoy 7 business jet. The simulator
will be joined by a Level 6 flight training device and an egress
trainer for cabin safety training.
- A Level D full-flight simulator
for Raytheon's Premier 1 business jet is being installed at FSI's
Raytheon Learning Center in Wichita. Certification is expected
by the end of the year.
