Day 2

Baker Launches Passenger Maps

Baker Electronics (Booth 6141) is launching JetMap, a moving map display system for passengers that can show continuous flight path positions as well as high-resolution terrain along a specified path. It also relays destination information, ground and air speed, and distance remaining to destination.

Several JetMap geographic packages are available, as well as a large world map package. The system can be customized for language, and can include company logos, aircraft symbols, and printable destination street maps. The system uses standard 28-volt DC power. It's half ATR size, "designed and built for tight space constraints."

Baker is preparing JetMap-Skylink, which will include instant access to weather updates, e-mail, and stock reports.

Flight Options is the JetMap launch customer. The pre-owned aircraft fractional ownership firm also uses Baker's MH cabin management system for controlling lights and temperatures as well as audio/video distribution and headphone volumes. New for NBAA 2000 is Baker's MH Xpress cabin management system, an economical version for smaller aircraft.

Baker, which says it's growing at 40% per year, is moving to a 50,000-square-foot facility at a new business park at the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport in Florida. The company employs 200 now and says the figure will grow to 225 by year-end.

Besides Flight Options, Baker's entertainment and cabin management system customers include Dassault Falcon Jet, Sino Swearingen, Duncan Aviation, and Garrett Aviation. The cabin management system on Bombardier's Global Express uses proprietary Baker switches.
