| Smiths Industries Launches E-4B National Command Post FMS for USAF
The FAA has certified the Smiths Industries' flight management
system for the E-4B Advanced Airborne Command Post upgrade, in
partnership with the Boeing Company. The new FMS offers the E-4B
GATM compliance, and is the first military application of the
Smith system. The FMS is based on the systems fitted to the Boeing
737NG family and uses the latest four-dimension technology. Certification
was awarded less than 12 months after contract award. Elsewhere
Fairchild Dornier and its partner IAI have awarded Smith Industries
Aerospace a contract to supply the fuel gauging level sensing
system for the Fairchild Dornier 428JET regional jet. The new
FGLSS is derived from that developed for the 328JET. Deliveries
will begin in spring 2001. In yet another disclosure, Smiths claims
a contract for Tactical Data Equipment for the JSF from Lockheed
Martin, its fourth major subsystems job on the developmental fighter.
