Arizona Tries Promotes Defense Industries With Farnborough Presence

Seven companies from the Arizona are making a combined appearance at Farnborough to try to foster ties with European defense and aerospace companies. Anchored around an exhibit by Raytheon, which has its large missile business based in the state, this is the largest presence of a U.S. state delegation at the air show. Representatives from several Arizona companies earlier this year traveled to Airbus in Toulouse, establishing a number of joint ventures and agreements. A repeat trip is now being planned. "The rivalry between Boeing's Jumbo Jet and the Airbus Consortium's A3XX may seem to put U.S. and European aerospace manufacturers on a collision course, but we don't see it that way. Neither, when we start talking, do our European counterparts," said Sally Spray, international director at the Arizona commerce department. Arizona has set up a European office in Wales, to foster transatlantic links.
