Germany's LFK Looks For MILDS Orders Beyond
NATO Helicopters
LFK-Lenkflugkorpersysteme GmbH expects a major boost to its missile-warning
system business following the production launch of the NATO Helicopter
90 program. The tactical transport helicopter version of the NH
90 will be equipped with a complete electronic warfare self-protection
system including a radar warning system, a laser warning system
and LFK's AAR-60 Missile Launch Detection System (MLDS). A total
of 144 NH 90 helicopters are to be fitted with MLDS, along with
80 Eurocopter Tigers in German service. LFK expects an order for
the system for France's 80 Tigers, and will offer it for Germany's
C160 transports. MLDS is a high-resolution system using ultraviolet
sensors, and is jointly marketed by Litton and LFK for high-performance
fixed-wing applications. It forms part of the Litton ASPIS (Advanced
Self Protection System) for the F-16.
