Honeywell to Integrate EGPWS Into Epic

Honeywell will integrate its Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning system (EGPWS) into the Primus Epic cockpit avionics for the Embraer ERJ-170/190 regional jet.

The melding of EGPWS capability into the Epic's modular avionics unit reduces component count and weight in the aircraft. It is the first avionics product integration to be announced since Honeywell and AlliedSignal merged in December 1999.

The Primus-EGPWS integration will help airlines meet an upcoming U.S. mandate to have a terrain awareness system in certain aircraft, Honeywell said. Over 10,000 EGPWS units have been sold.
