The FAA has certified the Smiths Industries' flight management system (FMS) for the E-4B Advanced Airborne Command Post upgrade, in partnership with the Boeing Company. The new FMS offers the E-4B GATM compliance, and is the first military application of the Smith system. The FMS is based on the systems fitted to the Boeing 737NG family and uses the latest four-dimension technology. Certification was awarded less than 12 months after contract award.
