| Thomson-CSF Exhibits Low Volume Terminal Datalink Thomson-CSF Comsys is exhibiting a range of advanced communications products for military users at this year's show. One of the company's flagship products is the MIDS Low Volume Terminal (LVT) datalink, which has just completed development under the aegis of the Euromids consortium. The LVT will equip the Eurofighter Typhoon, Dassault Rafale and some F/A-18s. Datalinks are bringing about major changes in fighter tactics. They allow different aircraft in a formation to share sensor data, so that one aircraft can track the targets while another, closer to the targets, performs a "silent" attack. Datalinks are also largely immune to communications jamming. Thomrad 6000 secure UHF voice transceivers have been chosen to equip six different aircraft types by the UK Ministry of Defence. They are the first radars to be qualified to the European Saturn communications standard, and can also be configured to support NATO/US Have Quick II or other national specifications.
Thomson-CSF Comsys is showing the new TLS 2020 multi-mode receiver
(MMR), which combines traditional instrument landing system functions
with those of a microwave landing system or GPS landing system
receiver. The MMR has been selected for the UK's Nimrod maritime
patrol aircraft, the KC-10 tanker, and for a European F-16 force.
