Northrop Grumman Launches Radar Retrofit Kit for F-16A/B and F-16C/D

Northrop Grumman has disclosed plans to integrate the latest AN/APG-68(V)XM radar technology for the existing APG-68 radar fitted to F-16C/Ds. The company is also planning to adapt elements of the APG-(V)XM for the older APG-66 radar, as fitted to the F-16A/B, adding synthetic aperture operating modes. The APG-68 upgrade uses two line replaceable units that are "form, fit and function" compatible with existing LRUs-making the upgrade process straightforward. Commenting on the benefits that the new system will bring, , said.

"One of the most significant developments of the AN/APG-68(V)XM system is a high-resolution SAR mode that will provide an all-weather, precision air-to-ground delivery capability for the F-16C/D," said George Perry, Northrop Grumman F-16 radar programs director. "The APG-68(V)XM will also provide a significant improvement in all-aspect air detection capability, and improved situational awareness, compared to earlier version of the radar," he said.
