LAPD Eurocopters Come Equipped
with Sandel Avionics Nav Gear

Sandel Avionics of Vista, California has supplied navigation equipment for two new Eurocopter AS350-B2s delivered to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) air support division. The SN3308 displays navigation references from several subsystems on one three-inch display. The colormap system serves as an electronic horizontal situation indicator, remote magnetic indicator, marker beacon, moving map, and GPS annunciator. It is designed to serve as the pilot's primary navigation instrument. The system "gives our pilot a single point perspective of the complete navigational situation on one screen which greatly enhances our situations awareness and improves safety, said LAPD chief test pilot Don Reuser. The contract with Eurocopter is expected to grow, with six more helicopters to receive the system.
