Honeywell VIA Notches C-5 Galaxy Milestone

Honeywell's Versatile Integrated Avionics (VIA) platform has successfully passed the core hardware and software preliminary design review for the U.S. Air Force's C-5 Galaxy Avionics Modernization Program. AMP is to see an upgrade to the C-5 avionics suite to improve reliability and maintainability, while also providing GATM (Global Air Traffic Management) compatibility.

The Honeywell-developed VIA will host the C-5's flight management system, missions software and Future Air Navigation Systems, known as FANS-1. VIA will also allow the Galaxy to operate within the future GATM environment of commercial airways.

VIA itself is mature, flexible general-purpose processor developed for the commercial airline market. It is derived from the Boeing 777's integrated modular avionics systems, and has now received FAA certification for the Boeing 737-700 as well.
