The Road To Recovery

Are we there yet? We ask the Market Experts to share with us the bigger picture of what is happening in the MRO market worldwide and what is the effect of the global economic crisis on the Middle East and on the MRO market there. We ask them to look at the Global Disruptors that have brought about this crisis and we ask how and when are we going to recover? We also ask has the military MRO market been similarly affected by the global economic crisis as the commercial market?

A-1 Overhauling Engine Overhaul
With recent announcements of engine overhaul partnerships in the region, does the Middle East really need more Engine MRO platforms or will it lead to over-capacity in global engine overhaul at a tough time in aviation maintenance? Could this benefit the airlines as prices are lowered to attract customers? Could Middle East engine overhaul shops attract work away from other regions? What do the engine overhaul experts think and what do the Middle East airlines want?
  • Dr Stefan Weingartner, President & CEO Commercial Maintenance, MTU Aero Engines
  • Abdulla H. Al-Hudaid, VP Maintenance & Engineering, Jazeera Airways
A-2 Managing Your Maintenance in Hot Climates
From a maintenance perspective, what are the challenges of flying aircraft and operating engines in a difficult operating environment with hot and arid conditions? What can Airlines learn from each other and from the MROs about preventative maintenance and dealing with issues that have arisen?
  • Moderator: Fatma Obaid Farhan, Marketing Manager - Aviation City, Dubai World Central
  • Mohammad Balkhair, Supt Maintenance, Saudi Aramco Aviation
  • Adil Al-Sheibani, Senior Manager Development Engineering, Oman Air
A-3 Military MRO in the Middle East
Efficient Inventory Handling in Military MRO

As countries try to maintain quite mixed fleets within fixed costs and lower their parts inventory, military MRO providers are looking at ways to improve TATs. These MROs not only want to lower the spares ratio required by customers but also want to decrease the amount of inventory they are holding. With costs under pressure, there is more of a need to repair parts rather than simply replace. Indeed, at a high level, there seems to be a merging of needs when we look at the military and commercial MRO business, both requiring high operational efficiency.
  • Saud Al-Rashed, Acting President, Middle East Propulsion Company (MEPC), Pratt & Whitney
  • Fahed Al Shamesi, EVP Military, Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies
10:30 am Morning Coffee
10:45 am – 11:30 am Breakouts - Parallel Sessions
B-1 A Closer Look At Aircraft Interiors
Going inside the aircraft to take a closer look at an area that can give the operator a real competitive edge with passengers, we ask the manufacturers what can we expect in the long term and what are the market dynamics driving this area of the business? We also ask some operators to elaborate on their experience, particularly with retrofits, and to share their opinions with vendors and their solutions with other operators.
  • Abdulla H. Al-Hudaid, VP Maintenance & Engineering, Jazeera Airways
B-2 Technical Support Outsourcing
Until recently, airline maintenance support functions such as maintenance programs, planning, inventory management, technical publications, aircraft records, engineering, and maintenance coordination have been the exclusive domain of in-house technical staff. Now, third parties including OEM’s, MRO’s and even specialists are emerging to do this activity, bringing us ever close to the “virtual airline” concept. In this session, learn how prevalent this trend is and whether it might be right for your airline or business. We’ll hear from experts actually doing this about the pros, cons, risks, rewards, and strategies in this growing trend.
  • Moderator: Mary Mannion, Editorial Director, MRO Middle East 2010
  • David A. Marcontell, President, TeamSAI M&E Solutions
  • Urs Forster, Director Business Development & Sales, OpenConnect
  • Jim Fitzgerald, President of Ramco Systems Global A&D, Aviation & MRO Solutions Group
11:30 am – 12.15 pm Breakouts - Parallel Sessions
C-1 The End Of Lease Return
Handback of aircraft post lease – does this have to be a nightmare process? Can maintenance processes in general be handled more efficiently to ensure that there can be a smooth transition from operator back to lessor?
  • Frank Meijer, Senior Technical Director, Waha Leasing
C-2 Gone But Not Forgotten – Out of Production Aircraft
While many countries are in recession and the current global economic climate is still unsettled, new markets continue to emerge. Some of the operators in these new regions and in other regions others are using older equipment and some have turned to using out of production equipment as a way to be cost effective and survive. What are the specific dynamics in utilising out of production aircraft? Here we discuss whether these aircraft can improve the reliability and cost effectiveness of the airline and what the challenges are for operators and vendors in order to sustain these aircraft.
  • Erik Goedhart, VP Marketing & Sales, Fokker Services B.V.
  • Richard Jacobs, Managing Director Mass Jetlease (part of Panta-Holdings, owners of Denimair)
12:15 pm – 12:45 pm Closing speaker
  • Moderator: Ed Hazelwood, Editor-In-Chief Conferences, AVIATION WEEK
  • Speaker from Dubai World Central

2:30 pm Exhibition Hall Closes
