Bombardier has contracted Parker Hannifin's Aerospace division to develop a fly-by-wire system for four new platforms.
The first platform to use this fly-by-wire system will be the recently announced 110- to 130-seat CSeries, a program Bombardier is calling its "widebody" program because the aircraft is larger than any model within its current portfolio.
Parker Aerospace, which announced the 10-year contract today, values the deal at $3.5 billion.
Few details are being disclosed, and all relevant Bombardier and most Parker representatives are unavailable for comment during their return from the Farnborough Air Show.
However, Parker Executive VP and CFO Timothy Pistell is able to confirm the exclusive supplier contract is focused on four platforms. A generic fly-by-wire system from stick to surface will be developed, and then customized for each of these programs, Parker also notes.
Pistell is not commenting beyond his confirmation, although he notes that the company has developed fly-by-wire systems for several military aircraft, namely the F-22 and F-35.
