The "Tower of Babel" Issue

High on the lists of priorities discussed at this morning's closing military session was the need for common language across U.S. military services -- particularly as they become involved in platforms with global reach, like the Joint Strike Fighter.

Shared vocabulary extends into standards for PMA use in the military in some areas and metrics for Performance-Based Logistics contracts with industry providers. Common metrics, standardized best practices and general terms across the board would create efficiencies that could help cut the costs associated with maintaining an aging fleet.

As one leader of the morning's fighter aircraft panel noted, right now, "everyone is working off a different sheet of music."
