A400M engines are turning and now taxi testing is also underway, reducing the number of system checks Airbus Military still has to perform before the military airlifter can commence its first flight.

The A400M is undergoing the ground preparations in Seville, where taxi testing under the aircraft's own power started yesterday, following another round of engine trials. Speeds reached 20 knots.
Test personnel also checked out the braking and steering system during 90 minutes of trials, according to Airbus Military. Reverse taxi testing was also on the agenda, and the aircraft completed a 180 deg. turn.
Still to come are low speed and high speed taxi tests, as well as aborted takeoff.
EADS has promised most of the year that the aircraft would fly in 2009. Progress in ground preparations suggests that barring any unforeseen event, meeting at least that commitment should be achievable.
