The first of 18 AW139 military utility helicopters on order has been delivered to the Qatar Armed Forces by AgustaWestland.
The deal was inked in August 2008, with Qatar the third military operator of the type, along with the Irish Air Corps and the UAE Armed Forces.
The air force will operate the AW139s in a number of roles including troop transport, special forces, border patrol and search and rescue tasks.
The helicopter was formally handed over to the air force, Nov. 23, at a ceremony at the company’s Vergiate plant in Italy.
