A few weeks ago, Ares reported here that the Iraqi air force for the first timed fired an AGM-114 Hellfire missile from a Combat Caravan.
The project, which the IqAF and the coalition advisers have been working on for more than a year, is aimed at allowing the country’s air force to better support ground operations with precision air-to-ground fires. Previous battles identified the lack of close-air support as a critical shortfall in the Iraqi military arsenal. The political agreement to have U.S. forces depart Iraq in 2011 has only made fielding the capability more urgent.
