787 update July 16

More intriguing signs of pre-flight preparations continue at Everett where ZA001 is today due to undergo a prolonged stow monitoring ground test which will check the position and closing speed of moveable surfaces and systems. Yesterday saw fuel system verification ground tests which, in turn, came hot on the heels of a series of primary flight control system ground tests and functional check outs. The engines have also been running again to support the majority of tests.

Tests on ZA002 are also slowly gathering speed with two days of work scheduled on the high lift system. Yesterday saw the system activated using power from the APU, while tests today (July 16) should see a repeat performance using power provided by the main engines. Flightblogger meanwhile provides interesting new details about recent line moves within the factory that have opened up assembly positions for the first batch of production standard aircraft from ZA100 onwards. He reports that ZA005, the first GE-powered 787, has moved to the paint hangar Building 45-03, while ZA006 has been moved to the 767 line area where previous 787 completion work has been undertaken.
