We all remember the infamous cola wars in the 1980s and 1990s between Coke and Pepsi. I am a Coke drinker. I come from a long line of Coke drinkers. I've actually been to the World of Coca Cola in Atlanta three times. I love the way southerners refer to all carbonated beverages a "co-cola." And I was not surprised to hear about a survey a few years ago that cited Coke as the number three preferred beverage -- behind coffee and orange juice.
So you can imagine my dismay when I read in this story in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that Delta is still deciding what its official beverage will be as it continues to integrate Northwest Airlines (which uses Pepsi) under the merger. What???

When I worked at Delta, one of the posters in my office was one from the 1930s showing a flight attendant holding Coke and touting the partnership between the 2 Atlanta companies (see above). Coke and Coke products are everywhere at Delta headquarters. And whenever the airline holds any kind of event, Coke is there. And former Delta CEO and chairman Ron Allen is on the Coke board.
Coke and Delta are two of Atlanta's iconic companies, and it would be close to heresy if the airline decided to change to Pepsi. I know I don't get a vote, but please Delta -- stick with Coke.
