NATA Jumps into the Social Media Pool
The National Air Transportation Association (NATA) has stepped up its social media activities in the past few months.  The association is on Twitter (@NATAAero) and has two new blogs – NATA’s Capitol View, by President Jim Coyne and Inside Washington View, by Vice President Eric Byer.

And now NATA has a new Facebook fan page.  “We thought Twitter and Facebook went hand in hand,” said Shannon Chambers, director of Membership and Marketing, who oversees the association’s social media activities.  “We saw other people were using different social media and thought it would be interesting to see how many of our members are on Facebook and Twitter.”

NATA saw getting into social media as an experiment.  “It’s also a fun and interesting way to get the information out and drive more traffic to our web site,” said Chambers.

“I’ve found that more of our members than I expected were using Twitter and Facebook as a part of marketing.  It’s a more productive way for us to reach out and give information,” said Chambers.  “There’s so much information we send out, and this has been a good way to get the most important information to our people where people can click and view what means the most to them.”

Using Twitter makes it a lot easier to get the word out, said Chambers.  “You can follow people and they know it’s out there.  But Facebook is harder,” she observed.  “We use it to direct people to things on our web site, including RFPs, member news and jobs.  We thought Facebook would be good way to interact with our members on what’s going on in the industry.

NATA has made cards that it will give out at the upcoming Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association Aviation Summit with our social media information on the back, said Chambers.
