AOPA Unveils New Web Site in Time for Aviation Summit

blog post photo

I was on Twitter this morning and my followers were all abuzz about the new design of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) web site. Having looked at the site, I have to agree.

I took some publication and web site design courses back in the day, so I know just enough about the process to make me dangerous, but not an expert.  But from what I saw at AOPA, I like the clean design, but it's still familiar to regular users.

AOPA is embracing social media by offering real-time streaming of Twitter (#AOPA09) feeds from the summit.  And members (and visitors) can still find the stories written by the association's respected writing team.

What hits you at the top of the page is a huge link that takes you to live streaming video at this year's Aviation Summit, which started today and runs through Nov. 7.  At the time I clicked over, President Craig Fuller was speaking with Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue, a big supporter of general aviation.

There are also tabs that have archived video footage, along with Meetups.  And clicking over to the Meetups section, you can also get live streaming video from those events.  You also get a live Twitter stream and can chat with attendees and like-minded people in real time.   To me, it's the closest thing to actually being there.
