    • X-29A Forward Swept Wing

      Graham Warwick
Distinguished by its forward-swept wing and close-coupled canard, the Grumman X-29A was designed to demonstrate the high angle-of-attack maneuverability benefits of the unconventional configuration, made possible by advanced composite materials and flight controls. Two X-29As were built, the first flying in December 1984. Testing continued until 1992 and totalled 374 flights (Photo: NASA Dryden Flight Research Center)
