    • Common Affordable Lightweight Fighter

      Graham Warwick
The Common Affordable Lightweight Fighter (CALF) program was begun in 1993 to develop technologies for highly common short take-off and vertical landing (STOVL) and conventional take-off and landing (CTOL) variants of the same aircraft. CALF brought Boeing into the competition to develop the next U.S. fighter, and led to the X-32 Joint Strike Fighter concept demonstrator, which flew in 2001. (Photo: Boeing)
