Flying The Gulfstream G650
A Boeing 787 is in the air - at least for a short while. It is is enroute from the paint shop in Fort Worth Alliance Airport in Texas to Everett. The FAA, which is still considering Boeing’s request to resume flight tests to check the battery conditions, approved a one-time Special Flight permit to allow today’s ferry flight today with one of its production aircraft. The FAA says the only people aboard are those needed to operate the flight. The FAA is allowing the flight through a one-time Special Flight permit which requires the following: · The aircraft must fly directly from Ft. Worth, Texas to Everett, Washington. · Before flight, the crew must perform a number of inspections to verify that the batteries and cables show no signs of damage. · The pre-flight checklist will include a mandatory check for specific status messages that could indicate possible battery problems. · While airborne, the crew must continuously monitor the flight computer for battery related messages, and land immediately if one occurs. The aircraft, Line Number 43, is thought to be have been painted in China Southern colors.
