Delta has recently purchased a 1997 MD-90 (N459BC) from Boeing that had previously been operated by Lion Air of Indonesia. The aircraft is currently at Blytheville, AR, where it is expected to be torn down for parts to support Delta's existing MD-90 fleet.

Delta's recent purchase and retirement of a single MD-90 brings total retirements of the type to 20 according to Aviation Week Intelligence Network's fleet database. A total of 117 MD-90s were built between 1993-2000 with four having been lost in accidents.
