Aircraft seem to be flying farther and farther to receive maintenance checks from an MRO facility in the desert climate north of Tucson, Arizona. Marana Aerospace Solutions recently completed heavy maintenance and interior reconfiguration on a Boeing 777-200ER for TAAG Angola Airlines, headquartered in Luanda, Angola. That’s 8,500 miles. As it turns out, the distance is not unprecedented, a company representative says. In fact, just a few weeks ago, Marana announced the completion of heavy maintenance checks on two Boeing 717-200s for Turkmenistan Airlines, based in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. That’s more than 7,500 miles – not quite 8,500, but still a good distance for narrowbody maintenance. Both instances were the first times Marana had worked with the respective airlines, and the company says it is looking forward to working with them again.
