Using a technique of recontouring fan blades, super-polishing and use of a pvd coating on blades and air foils can improve exhaust gas temperature (EGT) margins and reduce engine fuel consumption by as much as 5%, according to Dr. Jan Oke Peters from Lufthansa Technik. He told this to Aviation Week's Engine MRO Europe audience Oct. 31, reports Ed Hazelwood in Paris.

FYI, the Engine MRO Asia forum is coming up soon: it’s in Singapore Nov. 13.
