Flying The Gulfstream G650
Gulfstream, which has begun production on more of than four dozen of its flagship G650, is building up its capacity to help ramp up deliveries of completed models. The Savannah, Ga., manufacturer is adding about 100 workers to its Appleton, Wis., completions center to keep up with demand for completions work, including on the 650. The Appleton center currently employs 725 workers, including nearly 425 technicians. Gulfstream, which received full FAA type certification for the aircraft in early September, handed over the first of the completed G650s late last year. The company originally had hoped to deliver 17 completed G650s by the end of 2012, but scaled back that estimate following delays in the receipt of full type certification. But the company remained on pace in production, detailing plans to have delivered two dozen green G650s in 2012.
