Will Boeing announce a big MAX order from United Airlines at the Farnborough air show? Speculation continues, as Joe Anselmo and Michael Mecham report in today’s Aviation Daily. Humbled when the NEO stole the spotlight at last year’s Paris air show, Boeing would love to make the MAX the center of attention this year at Farnborough.
Meanwhile, there is some question over whether Boeing will break its dry spell of flying commercial aircraft at an air show. Aviation Week reported from EBACE on 14 May that the Qatar 787 will fly daily at Farnborough. The Wall Street Journal reported yesterday that Boeing will fly the 787 at the Farnborough Air Show. Technically, the aircraft will still belong to Boeing; it will return to Boeing after the show for installation of connectivity elements for high-speed internet service. But the air-show flying is driven by Akbar Al Baker, so whether that counts as Boeing policy reversal is something avgeeks can quibble over.
The aircraft in question is A7-BCB - the second 787 off the line, fully painted at Everett on 22 June.
