  • A350-900 Delay Could Hit -1000, Boeing Suspects
Posted by Robert Wall 12:34 PM on Nov 12, 2011

Since Airbus has thrown down the gauntlet by calling the A350-1000 a "777 killer," Seattle has not be shy about firing back.

With Airbus having just announced a six month delay in the entry into service of the A350-900 -- the lead aircraft in the family -- Boeing Commercial Airplanes president and CEO Jim Albaugh says that "w
ith the delay,  how that cascades to the -1000 is a question in a lot of peoples mind." When it comes to the -1000 "there is a lot of uncertainty," he adds.

Boeing is planning to have the 777X -- a refresh of its existing offering -- hit the market soon after the -1000, around the end of the decade.

Are there any near-term benefits for Boeing from the Airbus announcement? Possibly.

Albaugh notes that Airbus benefitted with A330 sales because of the 787's development problems, so he projects "we will be able to sell a lot of 777-300ERs."
