  • AA/BA decision coming soon?
Posted by Adrian Schofield 6:37 PM on Feb 11, 2010

Here's an interesting article by Doug Cameron of Dow Jones, examining the wave of key airline antitrust decisions that regulators around the globe are dealing with.

This passage midway through is interesting: “The U.S. Department of Transportation is also expected to reveal its decision this week on the application for anti-trust immunity lodged by American, British Airways and their oneworld partners.”

I have been hearing the same rumor for a while – the thinking is that DOT would very much like to have its initial decision out the door before the next round of U.S.-EU open skies negotiations begin in Madrid on Feb.15. This makes sense, because the AA/BA linkup would be the white elephant in the room if talks begin without a decision. This week is winding down, so guess we’ll wait and see.
