Yesterday Aviation Week's Jens Flottau reported on AWIN (subscribers) that IAG will today announce it is in negotiations with Lufthansa over the sale of BMI. That announcement came, along with IAG’s third-quarter earnings. This morning Virgin Atlantic jumped into the fray labelling the Lufthansa/IAG deal ‘anti-competitive’, saying it still wants to buy BMI. "We can confirm that we have made a bid for BMI, and are working with Lufthansa on the next stage of the purchase," it said. Our sources say however that Virgin Atlantic did not make a competitive offer. Despite Virgin’s anger this morning, the IAG/Lufthansa negotiations look like a done deal.
