Here at Aviation Week's MRO IT forum in Miami, several airlines have talked about their strategies of BYOD: bring your own device and use it for work functions. BYOD can save airlines money and staff can cut down on the number of devices they carry, but security functions must be addressed. If not, who wants their personal device wiped of all contacts, photos etc? How many people use passwords for their own smartphones? Airlines need tight policies on all of this if they pursue BYOD so they can protect their corporate data.
